University facilities tour/Spanish cooking class!

University of Barcelona
This afternoon, at around 12 p.m, after our academic, cultural, health and safety meeting, one of the API staff members took us to to Plaça Universitat, where my school for the next four months is located. The University of Barcelona, the building itself is very old, but it's very beautiful. We toured inside the university and were showed what classrooms our classes would be held in. In addition to getting a tour, I also received my schedule. Very good news, I got into all my first choices. I begin school next week, Feb 3rd, and I cannot wait! The University of Barcelona is a 20-25 minute walk from where I live and maybe a 10-15 minute ride on the metro, depending on the weather, I will chose my way of commuting to school.
Mi Rincón
After our tour, another student named Natasha and I decide to grab lunch. Since she knows I'm half Colombian, she told me she saw a little Colombian restaurant called "Mi Rincón" (my corner) that is located down the street from my host house and suggested we try it. I know what you're thinking, why am I eating Colombian food in Spain? It felt very very close to home and I needed that lunch to remind me that I'm not that far from home. Eating here maybe once every two weeks, is something I can see myself doing. Not only was the service good, but the food was amazing, just like back home. After lunch, Natasha and I decided to walk all around Barcelona and
Casa Battló

luckily, passing by Passeig de Gràcia, which is a very popular street where you can find all the expensive name brand stores like: Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Lacoste, Valentino, Gucci and more, I passed by a very well known house, La Casa Batlló. La Casa Battló is another one of Gaudí's buildings. Natasha and I walked all afternoon until we needed to meet up with our UB group at
"A Tavola!", for our Spanish cooking workshop. There we learned how to cook Paella (rice mixed with chicken, shrimp and clams), Tortilla de patata (a potato and egg pie), Pan and tomàquet (toasted bread with tomato rubbed on it) and Crema catalana (custard pudding that has a top layer of burnt caramel). In addition, I also learned how to make sangria! The group of us really had fun. I can't wait to get home to show my family what I can do in the kitchen now.
