Welcome to Barcelona!

*not my picture*

I arrived yesterday Jan 27th at about 11:30 a.m. in Barcelona and I’m glad to say I made it safe and sound. Despite, having my flight in Boston delayed and switching flights, making a stop in London instead of New York, everything turned out great. Luckily, I met a guy at the airport named Bennet, who was in the same API program as me and we stuck together the whole time. Finally, after waiting hours in airports, overcoming 2 1/2 delays and flying for about 10 hours, I finally arrived in Barcelona. Bennet and I had to wait until 1:30 pm for an API staff to pick us up. While we waited, two other girls in our program showed up, Maud and Melissa. Once it was time, we took taxi’s and headed to the Hotel HCC Montblanc which is located in the city center. There, the girls and I went for a little walk just up the street and grabbed a quick snack. After that, we went back to the hotel and had an API welcome meeting at 6 and then at 8, the staff took the group of 11 students to dinner. We went to a tapas spot down the street from the hotel. Tapas are appetizers or “snacks” that are eaten in Barcelona. We ate about 6 different mini dishes ranging from patatas bravas (home fries), chorizo (pork), ensaladilla russ (kind of like potato salad), calamares (calamari), jamón (ham), pan con tomate (bread with tomato), huevos con tocino y papata (eggs with bacon and potatoes) and more. For my first food in Barcelona, I enjoyed it, can't wait to try more!
